iRobot Roomba 880

The iRobot Roomba 880 lived up to its renown and did not disappoint in our test. It proved to clean very well in the bare floor test. It also picked up surface debris on our low-pile carpet and cleaned well along the wall. The top-scoring robot in our simulated home environment, Roomba 880 picked up 95% of the soil from the floors across two “rooms” with furniture. This unit has a side brush that helps sweep debris stuck in corners to direct it toward the vacuum’s dirt opening for pickup.

Pros

  • Excellent pickup on bare floors and along edges
  • Very good pickup of surface debris on carpet
  • Initial setup was very easy, and controls are intuitive for everyday use
  • Maneuvered excellently around obstacles
  • Fall prevention sensors stop robot from falling down stairs
  • Low profile allowed robot to go under furniture

Cons

  • In the spot clean mode, the side brush scattered the debris, which made it more difficult to pick up

Moneual Rydis H68 Pro Plus Robot Vacuum

The only robot vacuum in our test to truly wet clean, it did well on bare floors in our straight-line debris pickup test and pickup in our simulated home environment. However, it performed poorly on our low pile carpet. It maneuvered well around obstacles and was able to get into small corners, but it did not navigate from room to room. It also had trouble going over small bumps and moving from the bare floor to the area rug.

Pros

  • Excellent pickup on bare floor
  • Excellently maneuvered around furniture
  • Vacuumed under the couch
  • Easy to use
  • Ability to wet clean
  • Fall prevention sensors stop robot from falling down stairs

Cons

  • Very poor pickup on carpet
  • Poor pickup along wall edges
  • Had a difficult time moving from the bare floor to the area rug

Ecovacs Deebot 83

This model is sleek in design and comes with cloth pads for dry dusting and wet cleaning as you vacuum. It picked up debris well on our bare floor with no obstacles but did poorly on carpet.

Features: Remote control, self-charging base, disposable pads for dry dusting or wet cleaning hard floors

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Good navigation around obstacles
  • Good pickup on bare floors
  • Fall prevention sensors stop robot from falling down stairs

Cons

  • Poor performance on carpet
  • Poor pickup performance with obstacles
  • Had some difficulty transferring room to room

Pursonic i7 Pro Multifunction Vacuum

This model comes with cloth pads for dry dusting or wet cleaning as you vacuum. It also has a UV light that claims to have the ability to kill bacteria on floors. In our test, it maneuvered well around furniture in our “two-room” home environment and was easy to use and setup. But pickup performance scores on carpet and on bare floors with obstacles were poor.

Features: Remote control, cleaning tool, virtual wall, self-charging base, UV light (which claims to kill germs), disposable pads for dry dusting or wet cleaning hard floors

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Good pickup on bare floors
  • Good pickup along walls
  • Fall prevention sensors stop robot from falling down stairs

Cons

  • Poor performance on carpet
  • Poor pickup performance with obstacles
  • Had some difficulty transferring room to room
